Yes, banana trees will grow in north Alabama. This one was left to overwinter outside and it is doing better than those overwintered in the garage. This one will probably produce bananas this year. They will usually do so on the second year of growth. However, the bananas will not ripen as the season is too short. Banana tree is about 18 feet tall now.
